Research Interests

Mr Yiangou has a sustained interest in research in both his specialist fields - breast and endocrine. This includes research into the following areas

  • sentinel lymph node biopsy in breast cancer
  • pre-operative assessment of sentinel lymph node which will help determine immediately which patients will benefit from axillary dissection
  • genetic alterations in breast cells which lead to the development of breast cancer and determine prognosis and response to treatment
  • predicting lymph node involvement in breast cancer
  • evaluation of new drug therapies for breast cancer
  • improving the accuracy of pre-operative diagnosis of thyroid nodules

The first item below is a link to one of the most important papers which led to the introduction of Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy (SLNB) not just in the UK, but in Europe.  Mr Yiangou was one of 20 authors of this paper and he contributed a significant number of patients to this trial.  The paper below was published in 2006 in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute [JNCI 2006 98(9):599-609 ]

Below you will find a list of his papers with references which will enable you to find these documents online.
